On this episode, Adam is joined by Darren and Justin from Black Rifle Coffee Canada. That’s right, BRCC has a Canadian subsidiary.

The three Canucks talk coffee, meaningful causes, and of course guns. If you’re a coffee drinker and a gun owner, you’ll enjoy this one.

On this episode, Adam is joined by one of the most accomplished off-road endurance athletes to ever shoulder a backpack, Andrew Skurka.

Renowned for his solo backpacking feats, Andrew’s list of accomplishments is extensive. He was named “Adventurer of the Year” by both National Geographic and Outside Magazineand has backpacked 30,000 plus miles (yes you read that right) while pursuing his passion for trekking.

Beyond his endurance resume, Andrew is a hunter, and one hell of a curious guy that puts a lot of thought into everything he does. There’s plenty to take away from this conversation between Adam and Andrew.

On this episode, author Jack Carr is back to share his stories and insights from a recent trip to South Africa, where he was helping train an anti-poaching unit, and doing some research for another book in the James Reece series.

Regardless of your interest in Africa from a hunting perspective, what happens there matters on a global scale. Jack’s observations and perspective on African hunting, poaching, and game management will help you understand a deeply misunderstood place.

As promised, after running out of time to get into some storytelling in Episode 121, we brought Nolan back to share some highlights from the 2018 guiding season.

What you’ll hear in this episode is the story of Nolan’s favorite hunt of the year and arguably the hunt of his lifetime. We’d bet his clients feel the same way.

With some gear and hunting tips mixed in for good measure, this episode has something for everyone.

On this episode, Adam is joined by Rick Elder of Beyond Clothing.

Yes, Rick runs Beyond out of their Seattle office, affectionately known as The Acropolis, but more than that, he is an incredibly interesting dude with a very interesting perspective on a variety of topics related to the outdoor and sporting goods industry.

Regardless of the outdoor pursuit you most passionately live for, this discussion with Rick is sure to get you thinking.

On this episode, Adam is joined by one of the most unique guests we’ve ever had on the show, polar explorer John Huston.

John was one half of a two-man team that made the first American unsupported, 100% human powered expedition to the North Pole in 2009.

It took them 55 days, covering 478 miles on skis, all while pulling sleds loaded with hundreds of pounds of gear. Let that sink in…still think late season hunting is hard?

Although not strictly about hunting, this one is chock full of insights and lessons for anyone looking to push their limits in the mountains, or frankly, in life.

Hunting Lessons from a Polar Explorer

Nov 9, 2018

On this episode, Adam is joined by his good friend, and colleague, Nolan who just returned from a season of guiding Stone’s sheep, mountain caribou, Rocky Mountain goats, and moose.

Adam and Nolan discuss what it’s like to spend 90 days straight in the high country of Northern BC, the enjoyment and frustration of working with horses, and some of the lessons Nolan took away from his 2018 season.

On this short but sweet episode, Adam rolls solo and discusses some new gear/equipment he put through its paces, an embarrassing “won’t make that mistake again” lesson, and one of his tried and true backcountry menu items after a recent BC moose hunt.

Oct 27, 2018

On this show, Adam is joined by Dustin Diefenderfer of MTNTOUGH Fitness Lab in Bozeman, Montana.

It’s the time of year when cold weather and tough conditions are the norm. But, it’s also one of the best times of year to cut a tag. If you can hack it.

This episode will help you thrive when many hunters would rather hang up their boots.

On this show, Adam and Bryan Martin of Asian Mountain Outfitters, pick up where they left off in Part 1.

If you’ve never experienced a double-header rodeo, this one’s worth every minute and chock-full of shooting tips.

We’ve been tight-lipped about what exactly happened on this hunt, but we disclose some solid details here in Part 2. Spoiler alert…ibex meat tastes great!

On this show, Adam is joined by Bryan Martin of Asian Mountain Outfitters.

Adam and Bryan dig deep into the JOMH crew’s experience in TJ and cover a ton of material in this conversation.

In fact, they covered so many topics, we decided to chop it into two parts.

If you’ve been waiting for more details on how the hunt unfolded, you’re going to want to listen to these two episodes.

On this show Adam is joined by his good friend and past guest Bert Sorin, the president of Sorinex Exercise Equipment.

Bert is a husband, father, former hammer thrower and Scottish Highland Games athlete, and a deeply passionate outdoorsman. He’s also one of the more insightful and genuine men you’ll ever meet.

Adam and Bert cover a wide (and deep) array of topics in this one…Eastern vs Western hunting, childhood hunting stories, exposing kids to the outdoors, and of course training and training philosophies.

Regardless of whether you have any interest in Himalayan tahr hunting, this issue is about far more than tahr or even NZ politics.

The lines have been drawn and our will to fight is being put to the test.

Politically and emotionally driven wildlife management has become the norm and not the exception. In recent months, we have seen examples of this in British Columbia, the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, New Jersey and now New Zealand, to name just a few.

This is a global issue that requires our full attention.

On this show, Adam is joined by Brad Neathery, Tyler Sharp, and Charles Post, the men behind Modern Huntsman.

Through their publication and platform, they have taken it upon themselves to focus on both the non-hunting public and the dyed in the wool hunting community. This is no small task.

And by all accounts, they are doing a damned good job of bridging the gaps that are necessary for hunting to remain relevant in these emotionally charged times.

Adam, Brad, Tyler, and Charles dive into a host of subjects related to the establishment of their brand, the challenges our community must overcome, and how they plan to help the non-hunting public better understand who we are, what we do, and why that matters.

On this show, Adam is joined by John Warren of Leupold.

Adam and John recorded this conversation on location in Oregon after a full-day on the range at the Leupold Optics Academy (LOA).

Many hunters spend the bulk of their time practicing under ideal range conditions but, as we all know, you don’t always get the perfect shot opportunity in the field. So, with his Tajikistan ibex hunt looming, Adam wanted to take his marksmanship to the next level.

John took Adam through a series of drills and instruction focused on field-applicable shooting positions and the mindset required to make the most of any shot opportunity that might present itself. This is what you’ll hear about in this episode.

John is a wealth of knowledge and brings a unique perspective to the skills and mindset required to excel under any conditions and circumstances. Regardless of whether you carry a rifle or bow afield, there are key takeaways for all hunters in this episode.

On this show, Adam is joined by Craig Marker, Ph.D., of StrongFirst.

If you’re a long-time listener, you’ll likely recognize that organization’s name as they are, in our opinion, the best source of strength and conditioning research, education, and programming in the world today. Especially as it relates to those training for real-world applications.

But this episode is about far more than preparing for the backcountry. The methods, tools and programming covered are applicable to anyone that struggles to find the balance between work, home, and staying fit for whatever goals one may choose to pursue.

In short, this episode is about training smarter, not harder. At any age.

On this show, Adam is joined by Jared Frasier, the Executive Director of 2% For Conservation, an organization that is serving a critical role in today’s conservation landscape.

This is our longest episode to date…for good reason! Jared is one of the most insightful and outspoken guests we’ve ever had on the show, and this one’s an absolute MUST-LISTEN. Even if that means chopping it up into smaller chunks.

Adam and Jared dig into a WIDE range of topics, including (of course) why 2% For Conservation is so crucial to the future of hunting, but beyond that, there are too many subtopics to list.

You’ll just have to trust that this one’s worth every minute.

Big Fish with an Even Bigger Impact

On this episode, Adam sits down on the banks of the Fraser River with three guys from the Wild Sheep Society of BC on day two of the Jurassic Classic fishing tournament.

If you’re a diehard listener, you should be familiar with what the Jurassic Classic is, and more importantly, how it benefits wild sheep conservation projects in BC. If you’ve missed the past episodes where this event was discussed, you’ll want to tune in and hear how this unique event puts money on the ground where it matters most.

If nothing else, if you like fishing and are interested in someday participating in an event that’s as fun as it is effective at putting money into conservation projects, you’re going to want to listen to this one!

Aug 11, 2018

On this show, Adam is joined by his good friend and colleague, Connor Gabbott.

Connor is one of the men behind the curtain at the JOMH and one hell of a talented dude when it comes to running a camera and telling stories through visual mediums. A chef by trade, after 20 years in the restaurant business, he has finally made the leap into the film and photography field full-time.

On this episode, Adam and Connor discuss the evolution of a hunter and how the “why” of hunting changes over the course of one’s hunting life, and even, over the course of a season.

Through their incredibly different hunting backgrounds, Adam and Connor share how they have arrived at the hunting philosophies that guide their decisions at this point in their lives.

On this show, Adam is joined by Dr. Ed Ashby, the man responsible for bringing FOC into the modern bowhunting vocabulary, and Garrett Schlief, the President of Grizzly Stik.

If you’re a bowhunter, you will not want to miss this episode. Dr. Ashby shares the history and results of his incomparable research into terminal arrow performance, and sets the record straight on what you need to focus on when considering a move to a high-FOC or ultra-FOC arrows for your bowhunting needs.

If you’re NOT a bowhunter, you will still get lots from this episode, as Dr. Ashby has been travelling the world hunting, researching, and testing equipment for decades. His stories could fill an entire year of podcasts!

On this show, Adam is joined by the one and only Randy Newberg. Adam sat down with Randy at Mystery Ranch HQ on his recent trip to Bozeman.

A down to earth, dyed in the wool DIY western hunter, Randy has been at the vanguard of the hunting media business since he made the leap into producing and distributing his own content many years ago.

There have never been more questions surrounding the future of the media business and Adam and Randy spend most of the episode exploring precisely this topic.

If you’re wondering what the future holds for hunting shows, films, podcasts, and written content, you will want to hear Randy’s thoughts on the future of how hunting content will be produced, shared and consumed.

On this show, Adam is joined by the President & CEO of the Wild Sheep Foundation, Gray Thornton.

Adam and Gray spend the bulk of this episode covering two critically important subjects: the importance of high-value auction tags and the ever evolving wild-domestic disease transfer issue.

If you hold strong opinions about auction tags or want to know more about how they impact both wild sheep conservation AND sheep hunting opportunities, then you need to tune in to this episode.

In the second half of the show, Gray brings us to speed on the latest news on the wild-domestic disease front. After numerous attempts at collaborating with the various stakeholders involved, WSF has had enough. The gloves are coming off.

On this show, Adam is joined by Steven Drake to recap his recent trip to the islands of Haida Gwaii to chase Sitka blacktails. This was not your average blacktail hunt!

Drake, Connor Gabbott, and one of Connor’s good friends took advantage of the unique hunting opportunities on this remote archipelago, and put together one of the best surf and turf hunting trips we’ve ever seen or heard of. This was a true sea to summit adventure.

From alpine bow stalks to bear encounters, and beach deer to crab pots, this trip had it all. Tune in for the full details and trip report!

On this episode, Adam is joined by Greg McHale. Greg is the host of Greg McHale’s Wild Yukon, an incredibly well produced show that just debuted on the Sportsman Channel.

He is also a past guest (Episode 35) so, if you haven’t listened to Greg’s original interview, it would be a good idea to check it out, as the subjects discussed on this show, are essentially an extension of his first interview.

Greg is a former guide, retired professional athlete, avid bush pilot, and now a TV producer. Needless to say, he’s led one hell of an interesting life that has been heavily influenced by the Wild Yukon that he calls home.
